BOOKISH FINDS: New Year, New Books

I had Margaret Atwood’s dystopian classic The Handmaid’s Tale for Christmas and Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, both beautifully crafted books with strong feminist vibes, but I decided to use the holidays to really relax, so I didn’t photograph them and I’ve left them at home while I continue to work in the big city. I’ll try and photograph them at some point, but I have some other books to share as well. Technically, I didn’t buy them all in 2018, but well we’ll twist the rules a little just this once. 

A Conjuring of Light by V E Schwab

V E Schwab sneakily left A Gathering of Shadows on a serious cliffhanger, so much so that I went and bought the final book in the trilogy on my lunch break one day because even if I’m not going to read it for a while, I couldn’t not have it on standby ready and waiting. I keep saying ‘I’m not usually a fan of fantasy’ but the world-building, the character development and the writing are all fabulous and well worth the read, even if it isn’t usually your thing.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

Pachinko is potentially one of the most striking books I’ve seen. It immediately caught my eye, and the sweeping story of love, bravery and history made me want to buy it.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

I always feel sad that I never took the time to read Daphne du Maurier when I was living in Cornwall. I visited Jamaica Inn when I was in university, explored a lot of beautiful places and it just seems a bit of a waste that I never picked up one of her books. I saw this beautiful edition in Waterstones this week and thought it was about time I picked up the classic.
