This isn’t a book about the heroes who save the world. Mike, his sister Mel and their friends Henna and Jared aren’t trying to save the universe, they just want to graduate before the next supernatural apocalypse destroys their school. They’re on the periphery of the action, and yet their lives are far from normal; Jared is a quarter-god, Henna’s missionary parent’s are taking her away straight after graduation and Mike and Mel’s mother is running in an election race. DOWN THE TBR HOLE #14
Lia at Lost In A Story started this weekly post to trim down the Goodreads to-read list.
The rules are simple:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?

REVIEW: Holding by Graham Norton
In Holding, the quiet village of Duneen in Ireland is disturbed by the discovery of human remains on a development site. The residents are convinced it’s all that’s left of Tommy Burke, a young man who disappeared years before, but at the time he went missing witnesses had seen him getting on a bus to London. What made him come back and who killed him? For Sergeant PJ Collins, it’s his first real case and his first opportunity to prove his worth, but he seems ill-equipped to deal with a serious crime and the arrival of a city detective means he might not get the chance. Continue reading “REVIEW: Holding by Graham Norton”
REVIEW: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Reviewing classics can be a little daunting. They’re classics for a reason. You know the titles long before you read them, and often you know the story, or think you do, before you’ve even started. Sometimes you already feel a connection with the characters or sometimes an element of the story makes you reluctant to read it. Continue reading “REVIEW: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte”

BOOKISH FINDS: New Year, New Books
I had Margaret Atwood’s dystopian classic The Handmaid’s Tale for Christmas and Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, both beautifully crafted books with strong feminist vibes, but I decided to use the holidays to really relax, so I didn’t photograph them and I’ve left them at home while I continue to work in the big city. I’ll try and photograph them at some point, but I have some other books to share as well. Technically, I didn’t buy them all in 2018, but well we’ll twist the rules a little just this once. It’s been a while again. Christmas didn’t turn out to be the productive reading fest I thought it would be but never mind, a new year awaits! Continue reading “WWW WEDNESDAY: 10th January 2018”
MISC: Reading List Round-up 2017 & 2018 Reading List
The last couple of years I’ve set myself a reading list to tick off. The goal is to read some books on my TBR that are dusted in cobwebs, or pick up a book that I normally wouldn’t. The problem is that I rarely stick to it. So many books get published each year that catch my eye. Books get given to me, or I buy them spontaneously (it’s about the only spontaneous thing I do) and even though I have the best intentions, sometimes telling yourself ‘I have to read this book’ can put you off. THAT’S A WRAP: December 2017
The festive season has been busy, busy, busy which means the blog has been tumbleweed levels of quiet. I was hoping to get some blogging done while I was home for Christmas, but well, things never do go as you plan and it’s been a few months since I was last home so it seemed important to just relax and catch up with everyone. So I am barging into the New Year as disorganised as ever, but I’m going to schedule some blogging time in over the weekend. So hopefully, less tumbleweed moments?
