WWW Wednesday: 12th July 2017

I don’t know how I’ve actually managed this, but guys I read more than one book this week. Hurray for me! It probably means I’ve been doing more reading than working (like I should have, oops) but I can’t bring myself to be disappointed by that. But I am a complete fool because I was preparing this post for tomorrow and then realised that everyone was already posting theirs. Then it dawned on me. Today is Wednesday. Oops. So I’m going to update this post with lovely pictures tomorrow hopefully!

Nothing- I just finished Spoiled Brats by Simon Rich this morning!

What did you recently finish reading?

I finished Star-shot by Mary-Ann Constantine. I really liked the idea of pockets of silence turning up in a city, and the effects it could have on the inhabitants. The book started out with five separate narratives that all inter-twined which was another element of the book I enjoyed. I wasn’t completely sure about why the solution to the silence worked (it might have gone over my head) but I did enjoy the book.

Yeah, Right Get a Life by Helen Simpson was also a great read. Although, it made me feel a little claustrophobic. The short story collection examines the lives of parents, specifically mothers and how motherhood impacts their lives. Characters from other stories reappear which I liked. It was funny and worrying in equal measures.

I finished Simon Rich’s Spoiled Brats today and it was just as hilarious as his first collection. If you don’t think short stories are funny I would highly recommend his work or Helen Simpson’s. In Spoiled Brats he turns the world of millennials on it’s head, and pokes fun at nearly everyone. A girl struggles to maintain a long distance relationship while she studies abroad on Saturn, a school class hamster fights to protect his family from the children that terrorise them and an angel of death decides to help out the young uns by killing their dreams. Sometimes it’s frighteningly on point.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I feel a teeny tiny bit on the spot because my addled brain convinced me today was Tuesday, but I might read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.
