Another week has FLOWN by, and I’m still plugging away at my dissertation. I’d say I’m halfway through and the light is there at the end of the tunnel. Two more months and then I can blown my TBR wide open. Hurray.
WWW is hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Each Wednesday book enthusiasts share their reads by answering three questions:
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
What are you currently reading?
I’m halfway through A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing, which seems fitting because I’m actually going to hear Eimear McBride talk tonight. I saw her at the Hay Festival last month too, but I hadn’t read her work, so I wanted to be more prepared this time. I’m not stalking her, I swear. It’s not one of those books you can read quickly, because its written in fragmented sentences and although I thought I wasn’t going to be able to push through it, after about 25 pages, I found myself enjoying it. Hopefully I’ll finish it by the end of the week!
What did you recently finish reading?
The Women of Versailles by Kate Brown. I have mixed feelings about the book. I loved the concept of the Princess spying on her father’s mistress, and the obsession she has with her, but it didn’t all add up. And I didn’t entirely understand the drastic change in her character.
What do you think you’ll read next?
I just got Helen Simpson’s Hey, Yeah, Right, Get a Life in the post. So I’ll probably dig into that. I really enjoyed her first short story collection so I’m excited to see where this one takes me.
I love anthologies, might look that up 🙂

If you’re ever interested in short stories with a feminist twist I’d definitely give Helen Simpson a go!
